Maisie Wright
CUCKFIELD writer Maisie Wright has died, aged 86, after a brief illness. She came to Sussex in 1942 when her career as a psychiatric social worker brought her to work at St Francis Hospital until her retirement in 1969.
Miss Wright moved to Cuckfield in 1954, and was a founder member of the Cuckfield Society. A keen rambler, she published a series of guides to footpath walks around the village. In 1971 she wrote ‘Cuckfield — an Old Sussex Town’, and last year finished an update for the village’s 900th anniversary in 1992.

She also published ‘Cuckfield in Old Picture Postcards’ in 1984, and four years later published ‘Under Malabar Hill’, the story of her experiences as a young woman in India.
Miss Wright was a devout Christian and a member of the Parochial Church Council for many years.
