1970: Colour for another 400,000 people

A 1970s TV

THE BBC2 service from the Heathfield transmitter will start on Saturday bringing 625-line colour to 400,000 people in East Sussex and South-West Kent. Engineering test transmissions began last Saturday. The service from Heathfield will be on Channel 52.

The service area will cover the greater part of East Sussex including Eastbourne, Bexhill, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and Cuckfield. Eastward from Marden and Battle, as far as Wye and Lympne, the area will overlap that of the Dover transmitter providing an alternative BBC2 service in some places where UHF reception from Dover is difficult.
