Mrs Eliza Luckett (107), celebrated her birthday in good style at Cuckfield Hospital. The television camera was in the Lindfield Ward to see her cut her birthday cake. A request number 'The Baby's Dimple' was played for her on the BBC programme Housewives' Choice and in another programme, a Strauss polka was played in her honour. After a bacon and egg breakfast she enjoyed a glass of brandy, and throughout the day gifts arrived. A telegram from the Queen congratulated Mrs Luckett, who formerly lived at Wivelsfield.
