CAUGHT HOLD OF A GIRL’S ARM
CUCKFIELD MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT.
A man who was said to have caught hold of a girl's arm was charged with assault at the Haywards Heath Petty Sessions yesterday (Monday). He was Albert Henry Croucher, of Chilton Cottages. Whiteman's Green. CuckfieId, and pleaded not guiity.
Gwen BAKER, domestic servant, of Chownes Mead. Cuckfield, described how she was cycling back to Chownes Mead, accompanied by another young Iady, on the evening of November 15th. She alleged that Croucher followed, and when she got to the gate he caught hold of her arm but she snatched It away.
P.S. Cook gave evidence of arresting Croucher on a warrant on November 23rd. "I had spoken to defendant about this sort of thing on two occasions before," witness stated. "He had refused to say anything. In consequence of complaints received, I had a man out in plain clothes keeping observation on defendant on six nights at times when certain people go home.
CROUCHER told the Bench that he had no intention of annoying people. "I did it just to see If she would be friendly he stated.
The Chairman (Mr. C. H. S. ELLIS) said defendant would be remanded for a week.
