Updated: Dec 28, 2022

A heavy gale raged over Mid-Sussex on Tuesday night, and at Slough Green, near Cuckfield a huge tree was blown down, completely blocking the road. A police sergeant who cycling ran into the tree, and was thrown from his machine. He recovered himself just in time to prevent a party of four musicians, who were motoring from Crawley to a concert at Cuckfield from crashing into the obstacle. Before the motor could proceed on its journey - men had to be obtained to saw up the tree.
