1884: Making two carts from a waggon

An imagined scene of Balcombe farmers puzzling how to make two carts from their waggon. Imagined by Bing Image Creator.

St. Agnes folks are not alone in being chaffed about a cherry beam, a bear-hunt, hedging the cuckoo, etc. In  Sussex they tease Balcombe people by saying that they put dung round their church-spire  to make it grow as high as Cuckfield spire and that when they want to make a cart they make a waggon and saw it in two!

Cornubian and Redruth Times, 9 May 1884
